Okay, so this month, I’m pushing Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews onto you all.
Just a reminder for how the BOMContest works, even if you’ve read the book, join in on the discussion. If your name is drawn, you can choose one of the books I have available from my backlist.
The full post on the BOMContest is found here and as always, the general rules for my contests apply. Cheaters need not apply, your name gets tossed any way, only one entry per household, yadda yadda yadda…
So why Magic Bites? Because the book totally rocks.
I blogged about it here and gushed appropriately to Miz Andrews and hope springs eternal that she, too, will find my utterly adorable and so charming that she just can’t resist when I beg her to let me read the rest of the series as soon as she finishes. (Stop laughing! I’ll have you know some people find me very adorable-although I don’t know why)
Anyway, Magic Bites is urban fantasy. Definite romantic undertones and rumor has it that there is a serious love interest already brewing-once you read it, you’ll know who. The second book is every bit as good as the first, and who knows…maybe that will be a future BOMC topic.
I can’t find a decent blurb and I’m not sure where my copy is hidden (I’m still recovering from RT, sorry!) but on Ilona’s site, I found a short one…
First book in Kate Daniels series: when Kate’s guardian is murdered, she must choose to hide or to pursue his preternatural killer. Hiding is easy, but the right choice is rarely easy…
Doesn’t even do it justice. Just take it from me, if you like urban fantasy, this book is a definite must-try.
The contest runs through out the month and sometime in early June, I’ll draw a winner. As always, contest is open to everybody (except cheaters) and you do have to check back to claim your prize.
Soooooo…. have you read anything good lately?
Contest is now closed. Winner to be posted the first part of June. Comments are now closed to avoid confusion.

Shiloh, you’ve hooked me. I’m curious about this.

Based on your earlier review of this one I had Magic Bites on my TBB pile. So I’m excited that it’s a BOtM selection! Yeah!
I’ve been reading Laurell Hamilton’s Merry Gentry series so I have been quiet engrossed with Fantasy and Alt. Universe stories.

I haven’t read anything good as of late!!
Maybe this book will change that!!

Miz Andrews is overwhelmed with gratitude and must express herself in the manner consistent with her professional image:
SquuuuuuuuueeeeeeE!1!!1!!

*giggling* Hiya, Ilona!
Shiloh, please don’t enter me in the contest–I’ve already read and reviewed this one. Good choice for BotM.

Shiloh, when I saw the second book as an upcoming book on Amazon, I didn’t realized I even missed seeing the first book with recommendations for me because I really enjoy Urban Fantasy. Reading what you wrote and the blurb and so much I heard about it, definitely want to read this one! (But I read lots without even hearing about them because the blurb tells me “read me!” And I am always glad I did. I love that they have either a ‘bubbling’ romance or a definite romance that keeps going through the other books. I find that happening with many urban fantasy I read and even fantasy, because thats so much part of any story to have relationships within them, being romantic and friendship, etc. But so much I love the theme! I’ve read so many unique stories and this one is another that sounds special too!
I’m about to start the new book, second of Jeaniene Frost’s Urban Fantasy series. Loved the first book, HALFWAY TO THE GRAVE!

This is a freaking awesome book! I loved it
I’ve read a few really good books lately. I recently finished Grimspace and OMG it ROCKED!
I’ve also been on a YA thing lately. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare was great and I’m hoping to read the second book in that series soon. Also the YA series by PC Cast and Kristin Cast is fabulous

I bought both of her books from your recommendation. I haven’t had a chance to read them yet. I’ve read a couple good ebook authors recently. RG Alexander, Anne Rainey and Jess Dee.

This would be a new author for me and the book sounds like my kind of read! A new author I just discovered is Devyn Quinn. I finished reading Flesh and the Devil by her, what a hot read!

I’m not entering the contest. I’ve already read and loved the book. I just dropped in to say, “Yeah, what she said!” to your thoughts on Magic Bites. And if Ms. Andrews happens to need beta readers as she writes the rest of her series, I, too, would be happy–so happy–to lend my services.

this one is on my tbb list. The buzz about this one has been great.. I’ve Mark Henry happy Hour of the Damned is good. and I am looking forward to reading Eternit row by SL Viehl and one foot in the grave by Jeannine Frost.. Those are on the schedule for this week.

Back off, Bettie! I asked first. Uh, well, maybe. But even if I didn’t, I think I should be the beta reader. Because I wanna be. *G*

Eek! I’m not poaching, really. That’s against the unwritten code of fandom. What I should have said was, “additional beta readers.”

Hi Shi,
This books sounds great and it is on my TBB list and I will be getting it. I, also, love books that are a part of a series. That is always a huge plus for me.
I recently read A Rush of Wings by Adrian Phoenix and I absolutely loved this book!!
Have a great day.

I read “Magic Bites” a few months ago and fell in love with it!

I really want to read this one. As for good books I have read one that I just finished recently was Caine’s Reckoning by Sarah McCarty. I loved it. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Sigh…… that is way to long away. I also just read Sex with a Stranger by Katherine Garbera and that was very good also. An Urban Fantasy that I also read was Heart of Stone by C.E. Murphy. I like her stuff too.

I haven’t read much urban fantasy, but I might just have to give this series a try!
I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately. Right now I’m reading Taking the Heat by Kathryn Shay and Grave Peril by Jim Butcher. Hopefully, I’ll read more soon!

With an identical name I really should get round to reading Magic Bites
As I can’t afford it it’s still on my wishlist at this time though.

I bought Magic Bites the day it was released. I heard so much positive buzz about it, and I caved.
Lucky me. Its really an awesome book.

I finished Magic Bites this morning at 3 am. I couldn’t put it down. Ilona and Andrew’s world building is absolutely BRILLIANT. And some of the descriptions and sentences are so incredibly lovely. OMG Squeeeeeeeee! I’m about to start the second one, which I hear from the lovely ladies at Book Smugglers is ever better than the first. Yum!
