**UPDATED JUNE 30–This Contest is now closed.**
I used to read Holly Lisle a lot a few years back. Yeah, those were the days… before kids, every time a new JD Robb, Mercedes Lackey, Nora Roberts book hit the shelf, it was mine and it was read before midnight the day I bought it.
Then kids came. Slowly, reading started to take a backseat. Not by choice, but by necessity. Then the pubbed part of my writing started and reading got relegated to the trunk. Yes, the past year I have been making more of effort to read. It recharges the brain batteries and it relaxes me.
In my efforts to make myself read more, I started skimming my old favorites and while I was doing that, I saw one of my old fantasy books, a Holly Lisle/Mercedes Lackey book. Lisle! I remember her…she cowrote something with Mercedes Lackey, urban fantasy with elves before LOTR made them so popular…then I remembered seeing her mentioned a time or two on PBW’s blog. So I look up her books next time I’m at the store and man, what was I missing?
I See You was an excellent book. It had a strong capable heroine~a paramedic and something that struck me as cool….the medical part was believable. I think Lisle is or was a paramedic which explains the plausibility of it. One of my pet peeves is reading a book with a medical professional that’s inaccurately portrayed. They almost always get thrown against a wall without being finished. I See You had an excellent hero, gruff, strong, smart. It had a wonderful plot and more… I didn’t guess the bad guy half way thru the book. A lot of romantic suspenses, I guess the bad guy. I love it when I’m surprised.
It had some spooky shivers down the spine moments and it had some…awwww… moments. What’s not to like…
So I See You is the book of the month for May. For those not familiar with BOMContest…each month, I pick a book to discuss. I do like actual discussion. The oooh.hhh… I’d like to read this comments aren’t all that interesting, no offense. If you’ve read it, tell me what you think. If you haven’t but you’ve read a book in the same genre you think I might like, tell me about it. Tell us what you’re reading now. That’s the fun kind of discussion that I like to read. ;o)
At the end of the month or early part of the next, I draw a winner. If you’ve read the book, still join in the discussion (even if you didn’t care for it, that’s fine… just remember no bashing. A simple I didn’t like it because…. works just as good as anything else.) If you have read it, you get one of my books. If you haven’t read it, I’ll send you an unsigned, new copy of I See You.
The contest is open to everywhere. If you live in Antartica, might take a little longer, but you can still join and I will still send the book.
From Lisle’s website…
For paramedic Dia Courvant, each day brings the possibility of facing blood and death. But nothing matched the horror of the day she was dispatched to the scene of a terrible car accident and rescued the sole survivor-only to find her own husband dead in the wreckage. Now, four years later, a series of deadly car crashes has brought handsome detective Brig Hafferty into Dia’s life. She’s drawn to Brig, but can she trust him enough to tell him of the terror that stalks her? For Dia has received a message warning her of danger and death-a message that seems to have been sent to her from beyond the grave.
And you can read the first chapter up on her site.
Just a reminder…if you join in the BOMContest, it’s your responsibility to check back to see if you win when I draw the winner. If you dont’ check back within a few days of me posting the winner (either the very end of the month or the first part of the next), then your prize may be given to another winner!

Ooooh this one is actually in my TBR pile! I must dig to find it *s*
She has a couple of free books on baen.com. I love her story Sympathy for the Devil! I must hunt down more of the books in this series now that I reminded myself of it. (the Sympathy for the Devil series I mean)

You are soooo freaking me out, Shiloh.
I’ve read this one as well, and very much enjoyed it.

How am i freaking you out, May? I didn’t do anything! :OP
May 8, 2007 at 5:52 pm
I counted, and 3 out of 5 BOMCs you’ve chosen are books I’ve read and adored.
That’s freaky.

aaaahhhhh…. I see. Nah, it just shows you’ve got good taste. ;o)
May 8, 2007 at 6:00 pm
Well I could say ‘oooh.hhh… I’d like to read this’ as I haven’t yet. However I would rather comment on the fact that the only Holly Lisle ones I have read have been the ‘world Gates’series from my local library and I didn’t even realise she wrote romance too. Thank you for teaching me something new about a great author.

I’ve been trying to find Holly Lisle books at the library everytime I go there and I have only been able to find “Last Girl Dancing”.
I really enjoyed that book so I picked up a copy of it and it’s in my Too Keep Pile.
I’m currently reading “Hot Night” by Shannon McKenna.

I have never read this book or any by her for that matter. I will try to find her the next time I go for books. I am really into Christine Feehan. Her latest, Deadly Game was awesome. This is a continuation of her Ghost Walker series, and I just loved it. Next up by her is Safe Harbor, which is her next Drake sisters book. Anyone else read her?
May 9, 2007 at 6:17 pm
Jodie, I love reading Christine Feehan – I have all her books so far. I like the different aspects of her series’ but have a soft spot for her Carpathians as they were the first ones I read of hers

I read your Hunter series, and came here for the first time! I actually read “I’ll See You” when it was first released and loved it. I’m with you in that it took me 3/4 of the way through the book to figure out who did it. Nice for a change!
Then I realized you had also read Crazy Hot. A great series, I’ve read them all and enjoy. Right now I am reading the new Brenda Joyce – Dark Seduction, Lara Adrain – Kiss of Midnight and Jennifer Ashley – Immortals: The calling. 3 books (1) house, (1) car (1) work and I have Hunting the Hunter next in line.
Thank you for your work! Keep it coming.

Hi Shiloh! I never read Holly but your blog just keeps adding more to my list to read!
I confess, its been a long while since I read a romance suspense. For me, they need to be hot reads for me to want to read them. I got so burned out on straight suspense that I read mostly when I had the kids younger that I look for those that are intense and alot of sexual tension. Did you find that in this book of hers?
Actually I’m finishing up a contemp that is more of a fun read by jennifer Greene called BLAME IT ON CHOCOLATE. One thing for sure, I craved chocolate reading this one. I’m 3/4 of the way there, but I find this humor not to be the kind to laugh out loud, but the kind where you can smile reading it and it makes for a good comfort and ‘lift me up’ read. No suspense in this so its not required to be hot, but it still has the sexual tension, but overall its a romance story. With all i’m going through, this seemed to be the best read for me the last few days.
I did start and will re-start again, WARRIOR ANGEL by Margaret and Lizz Weis. I heard that she wrote fantasy and SF before this paranormal romance (Templar Knight who’s is an archeangel, I think, I never read this type before) who is sent to earth because one woman does not have her guardian angel to protect her. So as soon as I finish my chocolate book, I’m going to re-start this one and read and come back and give my scoop on this.
I love to chat books! So its great to be able to find a blog chatting more about the books and yep I’m adding more I want to get.
May 10, 2007 at 11:38 am
Cathie, it is romantic suspense so yeah, that tension is there.
I’m actually getting burned out on super hot books just because lately there’s more heat than romance or plot. It’s not worth reading IMO if it’s just heat. I want just heat, i’ll buy erotica and I’m not much into erotica.
Hi Cheryl… you’ve got great taste! *G*
You sound like I used to be with books. Welcome to the blog.
jodie, I’ve read several of Christine F’s books and love them. I like the Game books best.
May, you just obviously have excellent taste in books. ;p
May 10, 2007 at 12:48 pm
Should I be worried about having you say that I’ve good taste in books?
May 10, 2007 at 1:56 pm
I dunno, may… *G* should you?
May 10, 2007 at 7:47 pm
I think so. You are Scaaaaawwy.

I haven’t read Holly Lisle but I will have to check out her free reads to have a taste of her writing style. I finished reading a dark regency book, Claiming the Coutesean by Anna Campbell which was a good book,I’ll be blogging about it at the end of the month and I started Dead Sexy by Tate Hallaway, it’s the second book in the Garnet Lacey series and loving it just as much as the first book, the heroine is a witch who has the Goddess Lillith within her and the hero is a non traditionally made vampire who can walk in the sun.
May 11, 2007 at 10:38 am
This sounds like a great book but unfortunately this is the first I have heard of Holly Lisle. Then again there are so many great authors I have yet to find. I think I will stick around and see what other new authors and books you suggest.
I just got done reading Claimed by Shadow by Karen Chance. It’s a wonderful book about a woman who gets premonitions for the future while also drifting back in time to fix things that need to be fixed. And thats while living in a world filled with Vampires and other paranormals. This book is the second in the start of an all new series.

This is the first time that I actually received the book for the contest before the contest was over! : ) I’m actually in the middle of reading the book right now. So far it is really good. I’m just glad I don’t live alone. Creepy stuff is happening right now. I do think the main characters got involved with each other a little fast. I guess I just like it when there is a little more background with the characters before they fall in bed with each other. It does seem like things are coming together a little to neatly right now so I’m expecting something big to happen soon. : )
May 13, 2007 at 9:42 pm
I have never read one of Holly’s books before. I See You sounds like an interesting read. I just finished Take Two by Evangeline Anderson and am reading Water Crystal by Anya Bast.
May 14, 2007 at 3:00 am
I just finished the book and I can only say WOW. The ending is very action packed and I LOVED it.
